A: There is a rotation for every instance, based on the players available inside. Players post according to their position in the rotation. We have a discord channel where we announce who posted most recently and who's turn is upcoming, among other things. If that's not your thing you will have to dedicate yourself to checking the forum regularly to make sure you don't miss out on your turn.
A: Every game has it's own rules, though those rarely exceed 48 hours. As an example if you have 24h you have 24h, exact, after the last post was submitted. You're welcome to use these 24 hours for whatever you want, but please be mindful of other players as keeping them waiting needlessly can potentially lessen the mood and atmosphere. If for whatever reason you cannot find time to post within those 24 hours you are welcome to ask for an extension; though you will need a legitimate reason (Work, Emergency, Etc.) to gain an extension. That means watching TV for 24 hours is not an excuse to warrant an extension. If you fail to post within the 24 hour time period and have not requested or been granted an extension you will be automatically skipped. Any posts thereafter made out of turn will be deleted even if they were made 1 minute after the established 24 hours (for consistencies sake).
Q: How does being skipped affect the game?
A: It can affect the game in various ways, either neutral or negative. Should you find yourself in the middle of an action or conversation, your GM will include a section in their post dedicated to either your character becoming distracted, unfocused, or clumsy in some way. The effects of this can vary depending on the specific situation you're in. However if you're in combat the effects will be a lot more drastic. If you are, for example, in a two-post action your action will be cancelled or denied in some way. If you are being attacked your character will fail to react or dodge unless another character specifically intervenes in some way. The GM may find an excuse, through an NPC or the Environment, for your character to be safe - but only for the first few times as you will be expected to communicate with the Moderators or the GM.
Q: How much freedom are we allowed when controlling an NPC or another Player Character's actions?
A: Controlling NPCs both in and out of combat is arguably one of the more difficult things to do. As a player you will likely have no idea what the character is planning to do next or what situation might arise involving them which ultimately means that any action dictated by you could interrupt the natural course of the game or immersion. Try not to directly move for an NPC or decide an NPCs response, behavior, or decisions. These things should be left up to the GM. However if your character is attempting to interact with the NPC in a way that may cause them to move or act you could suggest the situation rather than act it out. Alternatively, if you want to be safe, you can message the GM about your idea and talk things out with them. Just don't expect to always get your way as the game tends to have a will of its own and that includes its NPCs. When dictating another Player Character's actions make sure to discuss every idea you have in regards to that beforehand to confirm that your actions will not conflict with what the Player had planned for his or her Character.
Q: What happens when Player Characters attack each other? Either to stop an action or out of conflict.
A: What happens happens. If a Player decides his or her Character will attack another Player's Character then that will be how it is. Naturally the other Player's Character will get an appropriate reaction based on their stats and the situation and enviroment they're in. Keep in mind however that situations like these could easily sway a Characters opinion of your Character into a negative and make the game tense so be sure to discuss situations like these with the other Players. Take not also that without the opposing Players approval the GM will never allow you to kill off another Player's Character.
Q: What are the rules towards Eating and Drinking? How often, if ever, do we need to nourish our characters to survive?
A: There should be notes made about characters Eating and Drinking. You can assume most of these things happen during down time whenever it is conveniently accessible, therefore it is not something to worry about for most parts of the game. However there will be specific survival based instances (i.e.: Being locked away or lost in the desert, etc.) where these things will become a lot more important and act as a starving mechanic as sorts. Basically; just make sure your character tends to their nourishment every now and again and things should be fine.
Q: How important is money? Is there a chance that we will be left stranded without any way to get new gear or information or food?
A: Money for the most part acts a progression resource. Do you need to get in somewhere without going through a hassle? Or perhaps you're looking for information or you need to replace some gear or similar situations? In any case like these money is a way to progress faster past these situations. This means; You'll need some from time to time, but there will never be a situation where you can't progress through the game or gear up because you don't have the money. You'll simply have to find an alternate route (Side-quests, Stealing, Trading, What have you.)
Q: How do Quests and Bounties work?
A: Quests are very simple and straight forward; You accept a quest and whenever the current step is completed it progresses until completion, after which you will receive a reward. Bounties work similarly except they are generally much shorter and city-specific. Bounties also have their own sub-mechanics that change from each place you accept them at, as does the reward.
Q: What's the difference between a friendly and hostile NPC? How do we tell?
A: There is generally not a lot of ways to tell ahead of time. You or another Player can have their Characters analyze an NPC, look at their posture, personality, the way they carry themselves, and see if they look hostile or not. However the only way to truly tell is to find out the hard way. In some cases it will be a lot more obvious (i.e.: A group of Bandits in the woods with their weapons drawn scowling at you.) but in other cases you may have to rely on your intuition.
Q: New Characters? How many can we have? How many can be in play at the same time?
A: Unless a special exception has been made you are allowed one or two characters depending on what you discuss with the GM. No characters will be retroactively removed from the game but please keep in mind that if you play a bunch of characters you may as well be a one-player-army and there will be no reason to play with anyone else which defeats the purpose of the game. Try to be considerate towards others and understand that playing a ton of characters can hamper the experience for someone else.
Q: How do we move between instances and when can we move between them?
A: When your Character leaves an instance they are either taken out of the game or moved to another instance. This process is automatic when you switch between areas (i.e.: You leave a City and walk into the outlaying Plains.) and a post will be opened in the desired location if one does not exist already. Keep in mind that if there is already people in the area you are going to you will be moved into the same scene as them as multiple instances just mean time goes by differently. In the past we have experimented with having multiple instances and some people who posted faster ended up waiting weeks to rejoin the rest of the group who were posting much slower. Therefore you will automatically be added to any pre-existing scenes that are taking place in the area you are being moved to.
Q: What are the rules on activity/inactivity. If we leave, what then?
A: You may leave at any time you wish. Depending on the situation you're in you can either come up with a reason as to why your character is removed or have the GM find one for you. Keep in mind however that if you go with the latter option you may not get the most true-to-character exit you could get as the GMs only job is to get rid of them in a way that doesn't kill them off. However try not to inconvenience other players (i.e.: leaving in mid-combat) so the situation doesnt suddenly wager against their favor. After inactivity your account will remain active for a week after which it will be set to Inactive. While Inactive you can't read or write posts or interact with the Forum. To re-activate your account contact any Moderator, Administrator or Game Master.
Q: How can I get in contact with a Moderator, Administrator, or Game Master?
A: You can send Private Messages on the Forum, or Send a message on Discord with @moderator / @gamemaster to get in contact with us at any point. Please understand that we may not always be available, but we will respond the moment we can.
