What kind of Character are you looking to play?
I'm looking to play a very knowledgeable support character that is based on Buffing party members and Debuffing enemies. The character will be designed to be pretty defenseless making her incredibly dependent on her team. For situations where she is left to fend for herself she will have to get crafty, but she won't be able to win any head on fights without others. Additionally she will be pretty socially skilled despite her tendency to assume her knowledge is common knowledge.
Tell us about your Character.
Name: Hycsis Yae Lyeecia
Age: 14 (28)
Race: Alv
Gender: Female
Attunement: Arcana
Class: Novice Loremaster
Profession (if any): Smuggler
Talk about your characters personality a little more in-depth. What are they like?
Hycsis can come across as a little aloof sometimes. She's smart but in a way that sometimes works to her disadvantage becasue she assumes that most of the things she knows are all common knowledge. Despite this, she's spent her years not just studying magic but also people causing her to have decently good grasp on what people are all about when she interacts with them. This also can be a bit of a problem as she tends to analyze people to a fault. To Hycsis everything exists and happens for a reason and every reason is definable. If she doesn't know the answer to something she will find out. She loves to wrack her brain and solve problems and can sometimes get distracted by a mystery or abnormality. However her time spent in the east during her more impressionable youth has lead her to adapt what she believes to be a more realistic view on the world. Now being a bit of a nihilist and not afraid to accept the cruelties of the world she tends to be significantly less innocent than when she first started her travels even showing no qualms of doing whatever is needed to get things done and survive.
Towards people her method of interacting tends to change. She likes to talk more than she likes to listen but under the right circumstances the roles can quickly be reversed. She appreciates silly mentality but will adapt a no-nonsense attitude if the situation calls for it.
Due to her age and experience she tends to waver back and forth between being confident in her practices and skills one time and insecure the next. She wishes to learn as much as she can of the world so her curiosity can often times get the better of her but her loss of belief in mankind tends to skew her perspective somewhat.
Decide on 4 positive and negative personality traits. No more or less.
4 Positive Traits:
- Knowledgeable
- Analytical
- Confident
- Open to Challenge
4 Negative Traits:
- Distractable
- Overanalytical
- Insecure
- Afraid of Failure
Describe your characters appearance in more detail.
Hycsis is about the appropriate height for her age at 61.7" (156.7 cm). She has a petit frame, tanned skin and short-medium length platinum hair. She has curious and striking pink eyes and wears a mixture of conventional and unconventional clothing. Her basewear is a somewhat plain black shirt with a wide cut-out, mainly chosen for comfort, and a pair of grey shorts usually both obscured under her cloak. She carries a belt with two books and various pouches strapped to it. Over these she wears an elaborate red cloak with gold embroidery that obscures her body from her neck down to her upper thighs. This cloak is designed in such a fashion that it may be enchanted to better retain warmth. While it won't act as a source of heat it will insulate her better during poor weather. She chooses not to wear any leg wear or shoes as she finds herself more in-tune with the world when she can touch it without obsturctions. It is one of the few values she retained from her home.
Describe your characters role in combat and personal preference in fighting style (if any).
Despite her lack of offensive magic Hycsis doesn't exactly walk away from conflict. She tends to try and get crafty using various debuffs and the environment against her foes. However she shines brightest when in a party with allies where she can buff them with various short term effects that enhance their performance and cause any other involvement of herself to be unrequred.
Her Buffs are as followed:
Unum Defensionis - A single target, single use, buff that lasts for a short duration and raises endurance.
Unum Celeritas - A single target, single use, buff that lasts for a short duration and raises speed.
Unum Repercutio - A single target, focus, shield that drains the casters energy while active and reflects the first magic projectile that impacts with the target while raising the targets debuff resistance.
Her Debuffs are as followed:
Unum Labefacto - A single target, focus, debuff that drains the casters energy while active and exhausts the target over time.
Unum Confractus - A single target, focus, debuff that drains the casters energy while active and weakens the structural integrity of physical armor over time.
Her Utility Spells are as followed:
Unum exradico venenum - A single target, focus, dispel that drains the casters energy while active and cures non-magic poisons.
The difference between Single Use and Focus is that Single Use is an applied buff that lasts for a brief time and then either dissipates or otherwise gets used up and needs to be recast. Focus is an active cast that requires a continuous connection between the caster and their target, rendering the caster mostly unable to do much else but that.
General Outline of your stats:
Social 7
Might 1
Stealth 2
Arcana 8
Endurance 1
Agility 2
Speed 4
Accuracy 7
Give a brief synopsis of your characters origin. This must include any important events that have occurred.
Hycsis enjoyed an elevated life-style for most of the first half of her youth. She was born into the care of a grand and exalted family of alves in the capital city of the United Empire; Edinburg. There she enjoyed the spoiled high-life that came with her family and their status. From a young age she showed great learning capabilities and an interest in magic which served the family just right as she was the youngest of a new line of illustrious and reputable mages, currently in training.
At the human age of 10 she learned of her fathers sudden disappearance. The man had meant a lot to the girl because during her harshest times when people expected the most from her he was always there to comfort his daughter and give her new inspiration.
Eventhough her maids had told her that he was simply out a little later on his trip she had this uneasy feeling. The man was always punctual and had a great respect for disciplin and timeliness. Sure enough she overheard a conversation one evening, late at night when most of the house was asleep and only the servants snuck about cleaning the mansion and preparing things for the next day. The head butler was conversing with a maid who had shown concern about something she in turn had heard in the kitchen. The family believed that the disappearance of their lord was due to murder. Rumors had began circulating the mansion that his transport was found crashed and destroyed at a bridge nearby. Hycsis knew of the bridge. It was a short bridge leading high over a wild river that connected the Lyeecian land to the rest of the city's outskirts.
In a panick and with this new discovery the girl couldn't help herself but find out the truth for herself. She snuck out of the mansion with little more but her favorite study book and a cloak for the poor weather and a deep seeted pit in her stommach.
It took her few hours on foot, the whole while going over bits and pieces of the conversation she had overheard in her head. "The Lord is most likely dead, then." "You shall tell no one about this." "The lady of the house must never find out about this." It made no sense to her. Both her and her mother would rather know for sure than to go on living blindly, never knowing if her father may some day return or not. What reason would they have had to keep it a secret?
Finally she arrived at the bridge and while there were no immediate signs of the carriage anywhere she could sense something tugging at her heart. A strange sensation calling out to her, drawing her in.
She went off the path, calling forth an orb of light to illuminate the way ahead, and began travelling into the thicket. The more she walked the more intense this feeling became. It was comforting but also frightening in a way and before too long she foudn herself in a strange grove of trees. It seemed almost unnatural, one moment she was travelling through the forest near her family's mansion and the next all the trees and turned whit and luminescent - glowing even.
A man was sitting in a field of soft blue flowers. Hycsis first thoughts turned to her father but this man was different. Unlike her father who had a dark complexion and firey amber slick hair this man was pale and greying. It was a human, in fact, sitting in the field sobbing.
Curious she approached the man and tapped him on the shoulder. He jerked in surprise, but quickly calmed down after, turning to face the stranger that visited him.
"Was ist los mit dir?" Hycsis asked, though the man didn't seem to understand her. She pressed again; "Bist du verloren, herr...? Brauchst du hilfe?"
Still no answer returned. The man simply studied her through bloodshot eyes. After a moment she kneeled down before him and used the sleeve of her cloak to wipe away his tears in the way her father would have done for her. She didn't try to say anything else. The man clearly didn't speak her language and there was nothing to be done about it.
Finally he replied in his own tongue. "Everything is lost." he said, trying to choke back more tears. "My lifes work, decades of time, wasted..."
Eventhough Hycsis couldn't understand the man she could feel his sorrow and his sadness and decided to give it another try. She rested a small hand on his shoulder, feeling the dirty and ruined fabric that came between them. "Brauchst du etwas? Kann ich dir helfen?" she asked, while this strange feeling of empathy returned to her. It was clear this man was the source of whatever led her here to begin with.
The man shook his head, unable to get a grasp on what she may have wanted of him. "I need to leave. I need to start again." he pondered for a moment, now sounding as if he was trying to build confidence. Perhaps he was telling himself everything would be fine.
At that point he noticed the book hanging out from under her cloak. "Ah... say. What is that book you're holding?" he gestured towards it as he asked his question.
"Mm? Mein buch?" Hycsis answered. She unbuckled it and handed it to him to look at. "Das ist mein vaters bestest buch. Es ist voll mit zaubersprueche."
Somehow that made the man relieved. He opened it up and began to read, skimming over pages and skipping further into the book. "Can you read this?" he asked and showed her a specific line in the book. She studied it for a moment herself and then nodded to him. "Du willst diesen?" she asked curiously and took the book from him. She giggled at the man, realizing that this would surely make him feel better.
She took a few steps away from the man and put the book on the ground. She had read this one before but she never really understood what it's purpose was. It never seemed to do anything at all. Regardless she lifted her hands overtop of the book and closed her eyes.
"Oratio, Inscriptio, Affatus, Ecce ancilla Domini, fiat mihi secundum verbum tuum..."
As she started to recite the inscription the book's pages as well as her cloak began to flutter about. Softly at first, and slowly becoming more intense as the incantation went on.
"...Ora pro nobis, sancta Dei Genetrix, Odium, Lacus, Traveho..."
The man watched in awe as the girl worked her magic. The feel of this strange luminous forest turned into one of hope. Hycsis couldn't help but smile during her recitement.
"...Pater, qui es in caelis, sanctificetur nomen tuum..."
"...Et ne nos inducas in tentationem, sed libera nos a malo..."
A sudden gust eminated from the girls position nearly knocking the stranger infront of her over. Before too long even the trees were shaking violently around the intense build up of mana.
"Good god...!" the man uttered in surprise. Despite his request, he didn't seem to think this young girl would have been able to pull it off. He struggled to get up on his feet, clinging one hand on to his chest as if he could hold himself in place. "...She's actually going to do it..." he confirmed in absolute awe. "Thank you! THANK YOU!" he exclaimed, raising his arms out to the heavens.
Then, the awe quickly turned into something sinister. The world suddenly seemed evil, dreadful, filled with despair. The forest was emulating these bizzare twisted emotions.
"AMEN."
A sudden sense of intense terror and shock brought Hycsis back to consciousness. She screamed out in surprise as she sat up in her bed. No - not her bed at all.
Panting and shaking she looked about the room she was in. The roof, simple in design had a hole in it that was poorly boarded up. The room was plain, but charming, loosely decorated with the occasoinal random thing. It wasn't much to look at, and it wasn't familliar at all.
She could hear footsteps climbing some sort of stairs and instinctively looked about. She tried to climb out of bed but the moment she started to move an intense pain shot through her backside that stopped her dead in her tracks. She winced in pain as a girl climbed up the last steps of the stairs up to wherever she was now. The girl was really short. She had soft features but a tomboyish attitude in her pose. Her features were similar to Hycsis own; tan skin, bright hair, and green eyes. It was like staring into a mirror image - except that the girl was human. She seemed excited, that girl, but Hycsis was in too much pain to think more than that. As slowly as she could she laid back in to bed trying her best to avoid the stinging sensation crawling through her body. "Ma!" the girl yelled downstairs. "She's up'n about!"
Hycsis never quite fully understood what had happened. One moment she was at home, then that strange forest. The next she woke up in this strange place to these strange people. For the first couple of months she was bed-ridden as she had injuries to her bones and muscles that needed time to repair. During that time she was taught the basics of the common language. From what she was told she one day just crashed through the tiled roof of their home and was lucky to be alive. No one knew where she had come from or how to get her home. For that matter, no one even knew where hycsis' home was. As a consequence she spent the next twelve years with the family on their farm; Ethan and Rose Vess, and her daughter Samantha who later moved out to pursue her career in the medical field. It was a bit of a bizzare situation that Hycsis initially only accepted out of necessity and later grew to find comfort in. It took her a long time to get used to the manual labor, the lack of servants, and not to mention the food. But over the years she had come to lose sight of the idea of returning home one day. During the years she continued to study magic out of her book. While not necessarily lazy, Hycsis never felt the need to fully commit to physical labour. Instead whenveer her adoptive parents weren't looking she would use a little magic here and there to make things a little easier on herself. Her new life was simple, and odd, but it was also good in a way. Her sister always cared deeply for her and all she knew was the innocence and comfort of being young, and loved.
On her 11th birthday, or rather, the 22nd by human years, the girl had made up her mind to travel the world. In letters her adoptive sister would sometimes express a sensation of feeling stuck. She loved her work but she felt as though there was so much more she could do. Hycsis wasn't going to let herself fall into that same trap and the years had grown her curiosity for the unknown. She wished to see what there was to see. Study new and exciting kinds of magic. Meet people, and explore the world. Perhaps it was her young enthusiasm influencing her, but with her parents blessing and a carepackage from her sister she began her journey up north to see the big cities.
Four more years would pass before the girl finally returned home. Though her travels had changed her in ways hardly described as subtle. During her travels she took a ship to the east and found herself stuck for the majority of her time away from home. What she hadn't known was just how difficult it was for the every day preson to escape the war and destruction of the eastern empire forcibly taking over their continent. Her time on the Eastern Continent had shaped her for the worse, giving her a more negative and need-for-survival based perspective on life. She had spent her years trying to survive and support the resistance in any way possible in hopes of finding a way back home to the vess family. Her parents were understanding of course and comforted the girl for her struggles. But it was her sister that she was concerned over the most. To no one's surpsie, Sam was quite shocked at her transformation. In a way, she was still recognizeable as the same young sister she grew up with, but her innocence had left her. Hycsis adapted more of a nihilist personality, viewing the world in what she believed to be a more realistic perspective.
After catching up with her family the girl continued on her travels, this time not with her child-like curiosity but a need for adventure.
Over the next two years she would get herself into all kinds of trouble and meet all kinds of people. Who was to say where she would end up next?
What kind of gear would you like your Character to start out with?
Optimally Hycsis would start her described clothing, including her enchant-able cloak. On her belt she would be carrying two books; A keepsake tome describing some spells which written by the alves of her home and an old notebook that once belonged to her adoptive sister containing random botanical information. Hycsis now uses the rest of the notebook to make notes of her own. She also has a pouch for her money, and one with room for smaller items that currently carries two small cloudy grey catalysts. These catalysts combust into a cloud of smoke when triggered and smashed onto the ground or otherwise destroyed. Lastly she carries a 16.9 oz canteen currently filled full with green tea.
Finally; What else, if anything, can you tell us about your Character?
Hycsis understands the Eastern Language but only speaks basic and broken sentences herself.
Hycsis contact between her bare feet and the ground enable her to feel vibrations slightly easier - such as weak ground and structures, subtleties in the terrain and footsteps. It also makes it harder for her to maneuver across extreme terrain - such as extremely hot or cold grounds.
Hycsis can perform base-level utility spells - such as lighting a fire, drying something wet, enchanting her cloak, conjuring a light orb and charging catalysts or even writing in a book.
